Crawl Cove vs SE Ranking

The SE Ranking alternative
built for the audit itself.

Crawl Cove is an SE Ranking alternative built for the audit itself: a focused desktop crawler with explained fixes, no URL caps, and Search Console, Bing and Core Web Vitals on every plan (Search Console in one click, Bing and CrUX with a free key each). SE Ranking is a broad cloud SEO platform, with rank tracking, reporting and a site audit among many modules, priced for the whole suite and with white-label reporting sold as a paid add-on.

Why switch

Three reasons SEOs move off the platform.

Pick by job

Which SE Ranking alternative fits your work?

SE Ranking is a rank tracker with a site audit riding along. Which alternative fits depends on whether you actually need daily rank tracking, or just the technical crawl underneath it.

Crawl Cove

Best for: Agencies who use the audit and track rank elsewhere, or not at all.

A dedicated desktop crawler with no rank tracker of its own: no URL cap, Search Console, Bing and Core Web Vitals on every plan, multi-client projects and versioned audits, all local.

Screaming Frog

Best for: A one-off audit with no ongoing subscription.

A per-licence desktop crawler billed yearly rather than by seat. Raw data and custom extraction rather than an explained fix, and no rank tracking of its own either.

Sitebulb

Best for: The most visual, hint-rich audit report to hand a client.

If the report itself is your deliverable, Sitebulb's hints and diagrams are hard to beat. It is a desktop crawler, with a heavier interface than either Crawl Cove or the Frog.

Semrush

Best for: Teams who would rather swap one suite for another.

A different suite with the same shape as SE Ranking: site audit as one module among many, built around keyword and backlink research rather than rank tracking.

Ahrefs Site Audit

Best for: Teams whose real need is the backlink index.

The crawl is competent and bundled alongside the index you actually came for. Closer to Semrush than to SE Ranking in shape: research suite first, audit second.

Lumar / OnCrawl

Best for: Enterprise crawling programmes.

Million-URL sites, scheduled cloud crawls, log-file and rendering analysis at scale, with the budget and onboarding to match. A different problem from a suite subscription, not a cheaper version of one.

Netpeak Spider / WebSite Auditor

Best for: A cheap one-off desktop crawl, no suite attached.

Fine when you need a crawl and nothing else. They thin out once ongoing client work, audit history and reporting enter the picture, and neither tracks rank.

The honest part

What SE Ranking does better than we do

SE Ranking is a rank tracker with an audit built in; Crawl Cove is an auditor with no rank tracker at all. One real gap, stated plainly.

Historical rank tracking, stored over time

SE Ranking tracks keyword positions daily and keeps the history, which is its core strength and the reason most people pay for it. Crawl Cove reads your current Google Search Console data on demand; it has no rank tracker and stores no position history of its own. If daily position tracking across a keyword list is the job, SE Ranking does it and Crawl Cove does not.

The two are complements more often than rivals: SE Ranking to track positions over time, a dedicated crawler for the technical audit underneath them. If the audit is the part of your SE Ranking subscription you actually use, that half can be replaced without giving up rank tracking, because nothing here suggests SE Ranking itself should be dropped.

What it costs

What SE Ranking costs, including where it is the better buy

SE Ranking sells two platform plans with the audit tool inside them, priced per plan with extra manager seats as an add-on, which is closer to our model than most suites. The figures below are the ones their pricing page showed us, read this month, beside what we charge for the crawler alone.

What SE Ranking Website Audit costs against Crawl Cove at each team size. SE Ranking figures above were read from seranking.com/subscription.html on 29 September 2026, from the price attributes in their own page source; the page priced itself in euros for our location and nothing has been converted. The annual discount is theirs, not ours. Crawl Cove prices come straight from our pricing page. Checked September 2026.
One person, a handful of sites SE Ranking Core: €87.20 a month billed annually, or €109 paid month to month. That is 10 projects, one manager seat, 2,000 tracked keywords a day and an audit allowance of 250,000 pages a month across the account. Crawl Cove £14.99 a month Solo: one seat, up to 3 client projects, no URL cap, every check included, billed monthly.
A small team SE Ranking Growth: €188 a month billed annually, or €235 monthly. That is 30 projects, three manager seats, 5,000 tracked keywords a day and 2 million audit pages a month across the account, capped at 1 million per project. Extra manager seats start at €14.40 a month each on either plan. Crawl Cove £69.99 a month Studio: ten seats and 10 client projects on one plan, priced as one plan rather than per seat.
An agency running many clients SE Ranking Growth plus the Agency Pack, an add-on from €59 a month on annual billing only, which adds white-label reporting, client seats and a project allowance of 30, 50 or 100 depending on the tier you pick. Crawl Cove £169.99 a month Agency: fifty seats and unlimited client projects, with branded client reports included on every plan rather than added on.
Daily rank tracking SE Ranking Included, and it is the product: daily keyword tracking on both plans, with the allowance set by tier at 2,000 keywords a day on Core and 5,000 on Growth. Crawl Cove Not sold. Crawl Cove does not track rankings at any price. If daily positions are the job, SE Ranking is the tool and the audit comes with it; this table is only about the audit.

The honest reading first: at one seat, Core buys a rank tracker, a keyword database and an audit tool for €87.20 a month. That is more money than our Solo plan, but it is also more product, and if you would use the tracking every day it is the better buy. We are the cheaper answer only when the audit is the whole job.

Where the gap opens is seats and clients. Manager seats are an add-on on both SE Ranking plans, and the Agency Pack that brings white-label reporting is a further monthly charge on annual billing only; our Studio and Agency plans include their seats and their branded reports in one price.

SE Ranking priced its page in euros for us, because it sets currency by visitor location, and we have not converted a single figure: the pound price it shows a UK visitor may differ, and a converted number would be ours rather than theirs. Read their pricing in your own currency before you rely on any of this.

Their audit allowance is counted per account per month, not per crawl, so a 250,000-page allowance on Core is shared across every site you audit that month. Ours has no page counter at all.

FAQ

Switching from SE Ranking.

Is Crawl Cove a good SE Ranking alternative?
Crawl Cove is a desktop SEO crawler that explains the fix for every issue, puts Google Search Console, Bing and Core Web Vitals on every plan (Search Console in one click, Bing and CrUX with a free key each), and works across multiple client projects, all on your machine. Plans start from £14.99/mo with every feature included, which makes it a strong SE Ranking alternative for agencies and in-house SEOs.
Do I need the whole SE Ranking suite just to audit a site?
No. SE Ranking Website Audit is one tool inside a full subscription. If the crawler and on-page fixes are what you use most, Crawl Cove is a focused desktop auditor. You pay only for the crawler, your client data stays local, and Search Console, Bing and Core Web Vitals are on every plan, Search Console in one click, Bing and CrUX with a free key each.
Does Crawl Cove keep my data private?
Yes. Crawl data and client information stay on your machine and secrets are encrypted: a local-first privacy model with no cloud account holding your crawls. Nothing is ever uploaded to us; the app contacts our servers only to verify your licence and check for updates. The exception is an integration you switch on yourself, which runs on your own account and key: Search Console, Bing and Core Web Vitals send the URLs they check to Google and Microsoft, and AI explanations, which ship switched off, send the finding and its captured HTML to the provider you choose.
