Generative engines build an entity graph from a site's structured data before they will confidently attribute a claim, a review, or a mention to a specific business. Crawl Cove's ai-entity-markup check looks across the whole crawl for an Organization or Person node with a name and a sameAs link, and reports once, site-wide, if none exists anywhere.
What this finding means
Unlike most Crawl Cove checks, this one is not scored per page. It scans every successfully-fetched (200) page in the crawl for a JSON-LD node whose @type is Organization, Corporation, LocalBusiness, OnlineBusiness, NGO, GovernmentOrganization, EducationalOrganization or Person, and that also carries both a non-empty name and a non-empty sameAs. If it finds one sufficient node anywhere in the crawl, the whole site passes and no finding is produced. Only if it finds none at all does it emit a single, site-level finding:
No Organization/Person schema with sameAs links found on the site.
The finding's URL is the crawl's seed URL rather than any one page, since the absence being reported is a property of the site, not of that page specifically.
Why it matters
sameAs is how a generative engine disambiguates your business from another with a similar or identical name: it links your on-site claim about who you are to an external profile it can independently check, Wikipedia, Wikidata, a verified LinkedIn or Crunchbase page, official social accounts. Without it, an engine has your site's word alone for who it is talking about, which is a weaker basis for attributing a review, a citation, or a direct mention to you specifically rather than to a similarly-named competitor.
How to fix it
- Add an Organization JSON-LD block to your homepage (or sitewide, in a shared layout) with your business
nameand aurlpointing at your own site. - Add a
sameAsarray of authoritative external profiles. LinkedIn company page, Crunchbase, Wikipedia or Wikidata if you have an entry, and any verified social accounts you actively control. - For a solo consultant or personal brand with no separate company entity, use a
Personnode instead, same shape:nameplussameAslinks to a personal LinkedIn, a bio page elsewhere, or a Wikidata entry. - One page is enough. This check passes as soon as any single crawled page carries a sufficient node, so the homepage is the natural place to put it rather than repeating it everywhere.
- Re-crawl the site to confirm the finding clears once the entity markup is live.
False positives and edge cases
- This is advisory, not a defect. Nothing is broken by its absence; the finding is
infoseverity because it names an opportunity to help engines identify and trust the entity, not a technical problem. - One sufficient page anywhere clears the whole site. The check does not require every page to carry the markup, only that at least one does.
- A
namewith nosameAs, or asameAswith noname, does not count. Both properties have to be present together on the same node for it to be sufficient. - A crawl that could not read any page produces no finding. The check needs to have actually seen at least one successfully-fetched page before it can conclude entity markup is absent; a broken seed URL is not evidence of a missing entity, just evidence the crawl never started.

Frequently asked questions
- Why does this check the whole site instead of one page?
- Entity identity is a site-level fact, not a page-level one. Crawl Cove looks across every page it crawled and only reports this finding if NOT ONE of them carries a sufficient entity node; if any single page has one, usually the homepage, the whole site passes.
- Does it have to be an Organization?
- No. A Person node with a name and a sameAs works too, for a solo consultant or personal brand site where there is no separate company entity to describe.
- What counts as a sameAs link?
- A URL to an authoritative external profile the entity actually controls or is described by: Wikipedia, Wikidata, an official LinkedIn or Crunchbase page, a verified social profile. One is enough; more strengthens the signal but is not required.
- What if my crawl only reached a handful of pages?
- The check only concludes "no entity markup" after reading at least one successfully-fetched page. If the crawl seed itself failed to load, the check stays silent rather than reporting an absence it never actually observed.
